PSG boss Pochettino praises Keylor Navas support for Donnarumma
The head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Mauricio Pochettino, confirmed that Navas talked to Donnarumma after making a mistake against Real Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain is having a hard time turning the page after suffering a tough elimination during the week against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Several fingers point to PSG’s head coach Mauricio Pochettino because he decided to start Gianluigi Donnarumma instead of Keylor Navas at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The Italian goalkeeper made a huge mistake that ended with Real Madrid tying the game in the 61st minute. Donnarumma tried to dribble past Karim Benzema, but the French striker took the ball away from him and found the back of the net, a crucial goal for Madrid at that point. That goal gave the Spanish giants hope and Benzema scored three goals in 17 minutes.
Keylor Navas didn’t play in return to the Bernabéu
It was expected that Keylor Navas would earn the start in that game and play for the first time in the Santiago Bernabéu since leaving in the summer of 2019. Unfortunately, the Costa Rica international watched the game from the bench, but after the 3-1 defeat, he talked to Donnarumma and showed his support. This gesture was applauded by Mauricio Pochettiino.
“I want to thank Keylor Navas for showing his support and for understanding my decision. Navas talked to Donnarumma after the game and was very supportive despite the mistake the Italian made,” said Pochettino during the press conference prior to facing Bordeaux for matchday 28 of Ligue 1.
