Josef Martínez adds to impressive MLS goal tally
The Venezuelan international scored his first goal of the 2022 campaign and gave the Five Stripes a 2-1 victory against Charlotte over the weekend.
Josef Martínez is back and the 28-year-old led Atlanta United to their second win of the 2022 MLS regular season. The Five Stripes suffered a tough defeat during week two of the campaign and the Venezuela striker led Atlanta to a 2-1 victory against Charlotte FC over the weekend.
Martínez scored in the 60th minute to give Atlanta United a 1-0 lead and six minutes later Adam Armour equalized, scoring Charlotte's first goal in MLS. It seemed that both teams were going to walk away with a point, but in stoppage time Jake Mulraney took advantage of a long pass and found the back of the net.

In five matches, Martínez has scored once and provided two assists. With the goal he scored this past weekend, he now tallies 95 since in 121 appearances since arriving in Major League Soccer in 2017. If healthy, the Venezuelan international can lead Atlanta United to a serious run to win the MLS Cup like they did back in 2018.
The Five Stripes will return to action on 19 March to host Montréal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and they currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta United has won two games and lost once so far this campaign.
