Christian Pulisic ties Chicharito’s Champions League record
The United States international scored his second goal of the campaign to help Chelsea defeat Lille OSC to advance to the quarter-finals.
Christian Pulisic is in a good run of form and has become a regular starter regardless of the competition for Chelsea during the second part of the season. The Premier League side are aspiring to win the UEFA Champions League for the second year in a row despite the financial problems they are facing due to the club's Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, trying to sell.
Pulisic could break a record in CONCACAF
On Wednesday, the United States international scored his second goal of the competition in the 2-1 victory over Lille in the round of 16. Pulisic’s goal took his Champions League tally to four and he now ties Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández as the all-time CONCACAF top scorer in the knockout stages in Europe's elite club competition.
The Mexican international scored four times in the knockout stages in the Champions League between 2010 and 2015 when he played for Manchester United (3) and Real Madrid (1). Pulisic now has the opportunity to surpass that record this season and make history as one of the most important players in CONCACAF’s history.
So far this season, Pulisic has made five appearances in the Champions League, three as a starter, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals on a 4-1 aggregate and they are waiting for the draw on Friday to find out who their next opponent will be.
