Sergiño Dest out for El Clásico, set for three weeks on sidelines
The US international is a doubt for Barcelona's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt on 7 April.
The tests Sergiño Dest had after Barcelona beat Galatasaray on Thursday have confirmed the player has picked up a hamstring injury. He is now a serious doubt for the Europa League first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt on 7 April.
Ruled out of Clásico
Dest has been ruled out of El Clásico this weekend as well as international duty with the US national team for their matches next week. The tests he underwent on Friday confirmed his fears. The right-back has a tear in his left hamstring. AS understands the minimum recovery time will be three weeks, so at the time writing he is a doubt for the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt on 7 April.
Dest in Europe
Dani Alves was not registered for the Europa League, meaning Dest's role in Xavi's side was pivotal in the Europe. His recent performances had also improved, which lead to more starts. This injury forces Barcelona to now consider their options at right-back, not so much in LaLiga, where Alves has become a key player, but in Europe, where Xavi will have to play Óscar Mingueza or Ronald Araújo at right-back.
If his recovery goes well, Dest could be back for the Europa League return leg at Camp Nou a week later. The game in Istanbul was the 20th of the US international’s season.
