Injury casts doubt on Brenden Aaronson playing with USMNT
The 21-year-old midfielder is a doubt for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers after he suffered a knee injury with club side FC Salzburg.
Brenden Aaronson was pulled from RB Salzburg lineup on Sunday 10 minutes before the match against Wolfsberg after he suffered a knee injury during the warmup. The United States international was expected to start the match and when the match started the club informed why Aaronson had to pull out.
“Last minute change to our starting XI,” Salzburg said. “Brenden Aaronson had to pull out due to knee problems, unfortunately.”
Aaronson in doubt for the games with the USMNT
Aaronson is expected to join the United State men’s national team camp early next week, but he is in doubt for the upcoming games. The USMNT will play the last three games of the World Cup qualifiers against Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica.
The USMNT ace has played all seven games in the round-robin tournament and has helped the United States secure the second place with 21 points, ahead of Mexico on goal difference. They are on the verge of securing a spot in the upcoming World Cup, but they need to add at least four points from their last three matches.
