Update:
Justice Clarence Thomas is the longest-serving member of the United States Supreme Court. Here’s a look at where he stands on the political spectrum.

The Supreme Court has announced that Justice Clarence Thomas has been hospitalized with an infection, after experiencing flu-like symptoms.

According to a statement from the Court, “He underwent tests, was diagnosed with an infection, and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics. His symptoms are abating.” Thomas, like the other eight justices, has received the covid-19 vaccine and booster.

The statement also said he is expected to be released in a day or two, and will participate in the discussion of cases for which he is not present.

The reaction of the radical left

The news of his illness has been met with some vitriol from the radical left, as evidenced by social media posts which say that it would be best if he did not recover.

Where exactly is Justice Thomas on the political spectrum and why has his hospitalization elicited such a violent reaction?

Thomas: Most conservative Supreme Court Justice

Justice Clarence Thomas was nominated by George H. W. Bush, and is the second African-American ever to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.

He is considered the body’s most conservative member, and a study affirms this view. Thomas has unwaveringly voted with the right on the issues of abortion, gun rights, and the welfare state, among others.

He recently figured in the headlines after news broke out that his wife, conservative activist Ginni Thomas had participated in the Jan. 6 Trump rally in Washington, which took place shortly before violence broke out at the Capitol.

Thomas has not recused himself from proceedings involving that day, leading to charges that he is guilty of bias and that he could be guilty of having a conflict of interest if he continues to be involved in the matter.
