March Madness has proven to be true to its name, with No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s bucking the odds and becoming the first team in NCAA history to reach the Elite Eight.

They defeated No. 3 Purdue 67-64 in the biggest upset in this year's competition so far.

Before Saint Peter, no number 15 seed had ever managed to reach the regional final round.

What is the lowest team to make the Elite Eight and the Final Four?

With the win, the Peacocks are now the lowest-seeded team to make it to the regional final round. This is three seeds lower than the previous record, which was a No. 12 seed. This feat was only achieved two times. The first time by Missouri in 2002, and the second time just last year by the Oregon State Beavers.

The lowest seed to make it to the Final Four is number 11. Eleventh seeds have made it that far five times. The first to do it was LSU in 1986, then George Mason in 2006, VCU achieved it in 2011, Loyola-Chicago in 2018, and most recently UCLA made it just last year.
