Update:

Hollywood icon Gene Hackman has been found dead at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, along with wife Betsy Arakawa and his dog. He was 95.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed to the Santa Fe New Mexican their bodies had been discovered on Wednesday afternoon, although he didn’t indicate when they are thought to have died. Mendoza also revealed no foul play is suspected, although no cause of death has as yet been given.

Who was Gene Hackman’s wife? Did he have any children?

Hackman’s wife was 63-year-old classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, who he married in 1991.

The actor was previously married to Faye Maltese between 1956 and 1986. He had three children, a son and two daughters, with his first wife.

Gene Hackman’s illustrious acting career

Hackman began pursuing a career in acting in 1956, at which point he was in his mid-20s.

He made his TV debut in “The United States Steel Hour,” an anthology series, in 1959, initially working in a restaurant in New York City between acting jobs.

However, his status quickly rose through the 1960s and he ended the decade with his first Academy Award nomination (Best Supporting Actor) for “Bonnie and Clyde” in 1968.

Four years later, he took home the first of two Oscars. In 1972, he was named Best Actor for “French Connection” and finally scooped the Best Supporting Actor prize over two decades later in 1993 for his role in “Unforgiven”.

Hackman’s other career highlights include three Golden Globes, including two for Best Actor, and two BAFTAs.

Hackman was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Golden Globe Awards for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field” in 2003, five years before he officially confirmed his retirement from acting. He hadn’t, however, appeared on screen since 2004 political satire comedy “Welcome to Mooseport,” his final film.
