Contestants from nearly 90 countries will vie to be crowned Miss Universe at this weekend’s pageant at José Adolfo Pineda Arena.
This weekend, the 72nd Miss Universe pageant will see women from 85 countries battle it out to succeed the United States’ R’Bonney Gabriel as the winner of the global beauty contest.
The new Miss Universe will be selected “via events including personal statements, in-depth interviews, evening gown, and swimwear,” the competition’s organisers say.
The pageant is to be hosted by former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, and TV presenters Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Maria Menounos. It will feature a live musical performance by 12-time Grammy winner John Legend.

This year, El Salvador has been chosen as the host country for Miss Universe. The event is to be held at José Adolfo Pineda Arena, a 13,000-capacity venue in the Salvadoran capital, San Salvador.
