The only time anyone accomplished such a feat was in 1965, but it could be repeated in 2026.

Only one actor has won an Oscar for playing two characters in the same film: this year there is another who could break the record after 60 years
‘Sinners’ is the film with the most nominations in Oscar history, so it is expected to take home at least a few statuettes next Sunday, March 15 – which in Spain will already be the early hours of Monday, March 16. And its star, Michael B. Jordan, is one of the leading favorites to win the 2026 Oscar for best actor.
There is also one detail that would make the award especially significant: he would be winning it for playing two characters in the same film, something that has not happened in 60 years.
Michael B. Jordan plays brothers Stake and Smoke Moore in ‘Sinners’, and the last person to win the award for doing the same was Lee Marvin, who took the 1966 Oscar for best actor for his work in ‘Cat Ballou’.
In Elliot Silverstein’s film, which blends western and comedy, the American actor played two different characters – Kid Shelleen and Tim Strawn. Since then, no one has managed to win an Oscar while doing something similar. Will Michael B. Jordan pull it off?
