Red carpet to red alert: This is the item a famous actress was carrying that sparked a TSA bomb scare
This well-known TV star “almost missed” a flight after a seemingly harmless item in her luggage led to a brush with the bomb squad.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo says a seemingly harmless item in her luggage led TSA officials to call in the bomb-disposal unit as she passed through airport security earlier this year.
In a recent interview with the magazine Travel + Leisure, Pompeo revealed that she “almost missed” her flight after a nutritious snack triggered alarm bells.
“I was like, what is happening?”
“I had a bag of sunflower seeds, like organic sunflower seeds from Erewhon, so they were probably the most expensive sunflower seeds money can buy,” Pompeo recalled.
“[Airport security officials] literally held me for an hour, and they brought the bomb squad in.
“And I was like, what is happening? Is this a joke? They said it was most likely a chemical on the packaging of these super expensive, fancy, organic, clean sunflower seeds. My protein on the plane!”

“I might not get on this plane”
Pompeo, 55, added that she offered to simply throw the sunflower seeds into the trash, but was told she had to wait while bomb-disposal experts analyzed them.
“It was really like no one would ever believe this!” she told Travel + Leisure. “I was texting my publicist saying, ‘I might not get on this plane, and you’re never gonna guess why.’”
