Romeo Beckham quits football to follow in Victoria Beckham’s footsteps

Romeo Beckham has decided to abandon his career as a footballer to follow in the footsteps of his mother, Victoria Beckham, and try his luck in the fashion industry.

David and Posh Spice’s second-eldest son has left Premier League side Brentford FC’s B team despite receiving an offer last June, local media reports.

Romeo Beckham signs with a major fashion agent

Romeo joined Brentford in January 2023 after a spell at Inter Miami II, his father’s team in the MLS. He played a total of 20 games in MLS Next Pro before joining the Bees on loan in January 2023. But after a year back in London he has decided to take another path. According to media reports, he has signed with a major fashion agent at Safe Management, a Parisian agency.

“Romeo has decided to hang up his football boots and devote his time to his career in fashion. He has enjoyed his time at Brentford but needs to turn his attention to fashion, which is where his passion lies,” an insider explained. “He has recently signed with a top Paris fashion agent and has his sights set on working with some big brands,” they added.

Despite his departure from the team, the source also revealed that Romeo intends to continue his work with the Brentford Penguins, a team dedicated to players with Down syndrome.

As for his career change, Romeo is no stranger to taking part in campaigns. In 2021, he became the face of Puma. He has also posed as a model for Yves Saint Laurent and Vogue. As a child, he also took part in several Burberry campaigns.

This is the second time Romeo has decided to quit the Beautiful Game. Romeo walked away from football after being released by Arsenal in 2015 and turned his attention to a career in tennis.

However, he announced his intention to return to football in 2020. The following year, he joined Inter Miami’s B team. Romeo made a total of 26 appearances for the club’s reserve team, scoring two goals and adding 10 assists before joining Brentford B in the January 2023 winter window.

His parents have not commented on his second retirement. However, his family will always be there to support him. In an interview with the Financial Times in 2019, the fashion designer revealed that Romeo felt very bad when he decided to leave football for the first time because he believed he would disappoint his father.
