One of those landmark shows was Prison Break, which premiered in 2005 with an unforgettable first season. It was pure adrenaline, anchored by Wentworth Miller in the role of Michael Scofield.
Miller retreats from TV spotlight
Miller was a major figure at the time, yet over the years he has faded from television. So, what happened to the British-born American? The actor, who played Lincoln Burrows’ brother - portrayed by Dominic Purcell - stepped away from the limelight due to mental health struggles, later revealing that he had attempted suicide multiple times. The reason? Fear of rejection over his sexual orientation. In 2013, Miller publicly came out as gay.
Since then, Miller has become a prominent voice for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health awareness, particularly around depression. His personal battles led him to retreat from public life, drastically reducing his appearances in both TV and film. In fact, he’s taken on very few roles in more than a decade.
A Prison Break return?
It’s a possibility fans still dream about - but Miller has already said no. So if a sixth season ever happens, it’s almost certain the show will move forward without its original leading man.
