It’s been a hectic start to the New Year for Angelina Jolie. The actress, who has gained critical acclaim for her for her powerful portrayal of tragic diva Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s new biopic Maria, has a packed agenda with several awards ceremonies to attend in the first week of 2025.

The actress was in Palm Springs on Friday to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival and picked up the Performer Tribute award at last month’s Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York.

Tomorrow, she could be back on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the annual Golden Globes where she is nominated for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture: Drama award.

Her busy schedule will help to keep her mind off her acrimonious divorce from ex-husband Brad Pitt which is finally almost over after a bitter, eight-year legal battle. The Hollywood stars signed off the paperwork to formally settle their divorce earlier this week. Jolie and Pitt were together for 12 years and married for two, splitting in 2016. They have three children from the relationship: Shiloh (18) and twins Knox and Vivienne (16) along with their adopted children Maddox, Pax, and Zahara.

Angelina Jolie’s recent career

Apart from acting, Jolie is also known for her humanitarian work. A former Special Envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency, she spent over two decades raising awareness and support for refugees before stepping down in 2022.

Since separating from Pitt, Jolie has enjoyed lead roles in movies such as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), Come Away (2020), Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) and Maria (2024) as well as overseeing projects as a producer.

Her latest movie Maria, which premiered in Venice in August, has gained 76% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and so far grossed $938,325 at the box office before it goes on general release in Europe. Maria is available now on Netflix for viewers in the US and Canada.
