Tony Hawk’s emotional message to Kurt Cobain about their common grandson: “he could see what an amazing woman his daughter has become”

Kurt Cobain and Tony Hawk were, in different worlds, two of the most iconic names of the 1990s, making it all the more remarkable they have a grandchild in common.

Cobain and Hawk families linked forever

Frances Bean Cobain, the only child of the Nirvana frontman and Courtney Love, was just 19 months old when her father died by suicide in April 1994. 29 years later, she got married to Riley Hawk, who followed in his famous dad’s footsteps to become a professional skateboarder.

In September 2024, Frances and Riley had their first child together, a boy named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. Tony recently took to social media to lament the fact Ronin would never get to meet his other granddad, as well as reminisce about attending a Nirvana gig in the early 1990s, unaware he and Cobain would be inextricably linked forever.

“Went straight from S.U.A.S event at Houston skatepark to this concert in 1991,” Hawk’s Instagram story began. “It was as transformative as live music can possibly be: We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”

The “Birdman” then turned his attention to family, showering Frances and his own son Riley with praise: “I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.”

Hawk’s post tugged at the heartstrings of his social media followers, with some revealing it had made them “sob” and “break into tears,” while others were simply jealous of young Ronin having the “coolest f*ing grandpas ever”.
