Tony Todd, best known for starring in the ‘Final Destination’ and ‘Candyman’ horror film franchises, has died at the age of 69.
Tony Todd dies after long illness
The actor’s wife, Fatima, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Todd had died on Wednesday at his home in Marina del Rey, California. Although the exact cause of death hasn’t been disclosed, it is known that Washington D.C.-born actor had been ill for a substantial period of time.
During his acting career, which began at the age of 31 in 1986, Todd is credited with appearing in more than 150 movies, with his most notable roles coming as the title character in the four ‘Candyman’ films and as funeral home owner/coroner William Bludsworth in the ‘Final Destination’ series.
Todd also appeared in a number of high-profile television shows, such as ‘24,’ ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ ‘The X-Files’ and several series of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise.
Acting world pays tribute to Tony Todd
In addition to his wife, Todd is survived by his two children, Alex and Ariana.
Tributes have poured in from around the acting community, with New Line Cinema, the production company behind ‘Final Destination,’ posting a touching message on Instagram:
“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony. Your Final Destination Family”.
According to Todd’s IMDb profile, he was involved in 10 different projects which are current in post-production, one of which is ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines,’ due to be released in 2025.
