Patrick Schwarzenegger’s latest career milestone turned into a family affair – one full of tears, mistaken assumptions, and a very public celebration. Fortunately for us, he captured the moment.
The 30-year-old actor shared the video as he revealed the news he’d been cast in HBO’s The White Lotus, a series his family had been encouraging him to join for years. In his Instagram post, he recalled how keeping the secret proved nearly impossible, especially when his mother, Maria Shriver, started speculating about his odd behavior.

Her first thought? That Patrick and his girlfriend, Abby Champion, were expecting a baby.
“She might have been happier than I was!!” Schwarzenegger joked in the accompanying post, adding that when he finally revealed the truth, emotions took over. “And then I started crying. She did. Katherine did. Was a domino effect.” And all of this unfolded in a restaurant, with other diners witnessing the Schwarzenegger family’s collective meltdown.
The moment was particularly special given their shared love for The White Lotus. “My whole family are huge fans of the show and would always mess with me saying I needed to find a way to get onto this show,” Schwarzenegger wrote.

Now, he’s officially part of the franchise, joining the Thailand-set third season. In his post, Schwarzenegger also expressed gratitude to series creator Mike White, executive producer David Bernad, and casting director Meredith Tucker for the opportunity.
“I’m only a small piece of the pie,” he admitted modestly, “and the other actors and actresses on the show are truly brilliant people & actors. Was a masterclass getting to learn from them.”
