When is ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ released: official release date and new trailer

‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ is one of the most anticipated releases of 2024, and although we will still have to wait a few more days before we can enjoy it in theaters, in some ways, its release on Wednesday 13 December transports us back in time.

Kamiyama brings anime-style to LOTR

The return of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to the big screen will be different, and that is that ‘The War of the Rohirrim’ is an animated film that will be directed by the Japanese filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, who has participated throughout his career in films such as ‘Jin-Roh’ and multiple ‘Ghost in the Shell’ films among many others.

The new ‘Lord of the Rings’ set in Helm’s Deep

‘The War of the Rohirrim’ will be set 183 years earlier than the original trilogy, at a time when Helm Hammerhand was the king of Rohan.

The animated film will show the confrontation between Helm and the army of the Dunlendings led by Wulf, who seeks revenge for the death of his father Freca. Mythical places from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien will appear, with Helm’s Deep playing a major role again.

Familiar faces from Peter Jackson’s trilogy are part of the film, with Miranda Otto, the actress who played Éowyn, acting as narrator of ‘The War of the Rohirrim’.

One of the most anticipated films of the year, which will take us back in time to those December months when the first three films were released year after year.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ will be released in US cinemas on December 13, 2024, and internationally from Wednesday 11 December 2024
