Australia’s stunning WWII commemorative coin could become a collector’s treasure
The design features red poppies in a wreath pattern, with each poppy representing a decade since the war ended.

Nearly one million Australians served in World War II, and around 40,000 lost their lives, fighting primarily in Asia and North Africa. To honor their sacrifice, the Royal Australian Mint has unveiled a limited-edition coin marking the 80th anniversary of the war’s end.
The design features a cluster of red poppies arranged into a wreath, with each poppy symbolizing a decade since the war concluded. Poppies are a universal emblem of remembrance and the centerpiece of Remembrance Day, which is observed every November 11 - the anniversary of the end of World War I.
“A powerful reminder”
Alongside the poppies, the coin includes a purple ribbon, representing mourning, dignity, and sacrifice, according to the acting chief executive of the Royal Mint, Emily Martin. “The Mint tells the history of Australia through coin design, and this coin is a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who served,” Martin said, per 9News.
A total of 200,000 coins have been issued: a fine silver proof edition and a colorized uncirculated version, both available through the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra. The silver coin is priced at A$90 (around US$60), while the colorized version costs A$22.50 (about US$15).
