Birmingham shooting: What we know about the victims and those injured in Alabama
A little after 11 pm Saturday 911 in Birmingham received calls about a mass shooting in the Five Points South area. Here’s what we know so far.
Five Points South in Birmingham was the site of tragedy on Saturday night. A little after 11 pm, 911 received calls about a mass shooting on the 2000 block of Magnolia Ave where several bars and restaurants are located, which draw large crowds on weekends.
Initial investigation of the scene indicates that there were multiple shooters. During a press conference to update the public on the mass shooting the Chief of Police, Scott Thurmond, told reporters that an indivdual who was there had been targeted. They have found over 100 shell casings along with other pieces of evidence at the crime scene.
Approximately 21 people were shot. Four of those victims have died, two men and a women on the scene and a fourth died at hospital. The other victims were taken to various hospitals, as many as four suffered life-threatening injuries.
So far, no one is in custody and police are asking the public for their help. Police are reviewing surveillance video that they collected from business owners in the Five Points South area. As well witnesses are asked to come forward.
