Costco will close all U.S. locations on April 5: Here’s why the 24-hour shutdown is happening

The popular warehouse chain will not open its stores on Sunday, April 5, as it observes Easter, one of the holidays included in its annual schedule. During certain holidays, supermarkets and other businesses close and give employees the day off, so customers are encouraged to plan their shopping in advance. Unlike many of its competitors, Costco observes more holidays throughout the year.

When will Costco reopen?

Customers can prepare ahead for Easter celebrations, since all locations nationwide will be closed on April 5. However, the closure will be brief. All stores will resume in-person operations the following day, Monday, April 6.

Other stores that may close for Easter

Last year, Target, Sam’s Club, Aldi, and Publix also closed on Easter Sunday, though they have not yet confirmed their schedules for this year. Other retailers, such as Walmart, Kroger, and Trader Joe’s, typically remain open during the holiday.

  • Memorial Day : Monday, May 25, 2026
  • Independence Day: Saturday, July 4, 2026 (although the federal holiday is observed Friday, July 3, since July 4 falls on a Saturday in 2026)

  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 26, 2026
  • Christmas Day: Friday, December 25, 2026
