Did Donald Trump really say people “won’t have to” vote again after he’s made US president?

Donald Trump’s latest comments towards Christians have many concerned and confused... why did Trump say they would never need to vote again?

At a rally earlier this week, Donald Trump made some odd and deeply concerning comments directed at Christian voters.

During a speech at a Turning Point USA event, the GOP nominee for president told those listening, “Get out and vote -- just this time.” It is already an odd way of phrasing a candidate’s get-out-the-vote pitch. He then went on to say that they “won’t have to do it anymore.” The it, in that statement, refers to voting.

Exactly why won’t they have to vote again? Oh, because Donald Trump says the country will be “fixed.”

Get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote,” said Trump, prompting outrage from Democrats and confusion from Republican pundits who are still attempting to spin the comments into something less politically damaging to the campaign.

The comments come at an inopportune time for the campaign

Since President Joe Biden decided to bow out of the race, and threw his support behind his vice president, Kamala Harris, Trump’s numbers in the polls have worsened. The boost that he received after his attempted assassination has dwindled as Democratic voters are more energized with Harris presumed to lead their ticket in November.

These comments from Donald Trump come as his vice presidential pick is tanking his chances of winning the election in November. With negative favorability, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance is causing serious electoral problems for the GOP ticket, though the former president has not attacked him so far. The Trump campaign could select a new nominee, but it is unclear what that process would look like since his candidacy was made official a few weeks ago at the RNC convention in Wisconsin.
