Update:

You might want to give that container in your fridge a second look. Hans Kissle has voluntarily recalled 66 mislabeled units of its Red Potato Bliss Salad after discovering a labeling error that could pose a serious risk to anyone with a wheat allergy.

Here’s what happened: 66 containers of Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad – which contains wheat – were shipped out with the wrong top label. The front label correctly says it’s pasta salad. But the top lid misidentifies the product as Red Bliss Potato Salad, a product that doesn’t contain wheat. That means anyone with a wheat allergy might think it’s safe when it’s not.

Which stores sold the recalled product?

The mislabeled containers were distributed to Stop & Shop locations in the following states:

  • Massachusetts
  • Rhode Island
  • Connecticut
  • New Jersey
  • New York

They were sold in 16-ounce clear plastic containers with white lids, bearing:

  • UPC Code: 036217673706
  • Use By date: 8/20/25 (found on the top lid)

What happens if you eat it?

If you don’t have a wheat allergy, you’re in the clear. But for anyone with wheat sensitivity, eating the pasta salad could trigger a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. So far, there have been no reported illnesses tied to the mix-up.

What should you do if you bought one?

If you picked up one of these mislabeled containers, don’t eat it. Return it to your local Stop & Shop for a full refund or toss it if you’d rather not make the trip. If you’re unsure, look at both the top and front labels. If they don’t match – Red Bliss on top, Tricolor Pasta on the side – you’ve got one of the recalled items.

This isn’t the first time a simple labeling issue has put people at risk, and it probably won’t be the last. But it’s a reminder: sometimes, the small print can make a big difference.
