The Republican candidate for the United States Senate in Georgia, Herschel Walker, a former NFL player with the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, and Philadelphia Eagles denied that he paid his girlfriend for her abortion in 2009 after a report by ‘Daily Beast’ was released earlier this week.

I never asked anyone to have an abortion,” Walker told Fox News shortly after the story broke Monday night.

“I never paid for an abortion. And it’s a lie. And I will keep fighting. They want this seat. Right now, they have given me even more energy.

The Daily Beast granted the woman anonymity to protect her privacy after she was able to provide substantive evidence that her abortion was paid for more than a decade ago.

In addition to a receipt of the check she received from Walker, she also showed reporters a card signed by the candidate. Later, Christan Walker, the candidate’s son, confirmed that it was, in fact, his father’s handwriting on the card. One of the most bizarre aspects of the Fox News interview was when he did not exactly deny the events, saying that he sends money and recovery cards to a lot of people.

What did Christain Walker say in response to the news of his father?

Christan Walker is a conservative influencer and has spoken out against his father in light of the reports. Christan took to Twitter to say his piece, revealing that almost all members of the Walker family had asked Herschel not to run.

Most of Christan’s comments center around the fact that he sees his father as a liar. While he had done a few events to support his father in the earlier stages of the campaign, it is clear that the relationship between the father and son has soured, reaching a new breaking point after the most recent news.

Herschel Walker also took to Twitter after seeing what his son had posted, saying, “I LOVE my son no matter what.”

Herschel is a staunchly anti-choice candidate

The Walker scandal takes on greater relevance because he is running on a platform that is radically anti-choice.

Walker’s campaign website reads, “As a Christian, a father, and a husband, Herschel knows that strong families are the bedrock of our country. [...] Herschel is a compassionate conservative who is pro-life and pro-family.” Previously, the candidate has been quoted saying that for him, there are no exceptions that would permit an abortion.

Does Herschel Walker support a national abortion ban?

In the past, Walker has come out in favor of a national abortion ban, which since the Dobbs decision has become one of the most politically toxic Republican policy proposals. GOP party leaders, including Senate Minotry Leader Mitch McConnell, have encouraged candidates to avoid the issue of abortion and to muddy their stance on a national ban in the lead-up to the mid-terms.

After Kansas voters overwhelmingly upheld the right to abortion in the state, Republicans have noticed that the public is not on their side. The party is pulling out all the stops to ensure the conversation in the lead-up to the November elections focuses on areas where they feel their argument is stronger. However, as gas prices dip across the country and inflation slows, arguments over Democratic mismanagement of the economy are not as strong as they were earlier this year.

Who is Walker running against?

Despite winning the primary elections in May, a few weeks before the Senate elections, Walker is trailing Democrat Raphael Warnock in the polls.

Warnock won Georgia’s special election in 2021, which helped to give Democrats their slight majority in the US Senate. As of late September, Warnock holds a small two-point lead over Walker, meaning that the impact of the newest revelations has yet to be seen.
