According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the bear showed a particular interest in the strawberry ice cream. It also sampled other flavors, leaving behind paw prints and knocked-over tubs.
A security guard initially called authorities, and when deputies arrived, they found the bear behind the counter as if it were an employee.
With “some encouragement” from the deputies, the bear eventually left the shop and went back into the woods. The incident caused very little property damage, but due to health and safety regulations, the entire ice cream stock had to be replaced. Fortunately, no one was harmed.
