In much of the country, trick-or-treaters may need to grab a coat on their way out the door as a cold front moves across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning that snow is in the forecast for some parts of the country and that any Halloween festivities should consider the drop in temperatures.

Snow could disrupt Halloween plans this year...

While over a dozen states are under an NWS Winter Weather Advisory, snow is only forecasted in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, and Wisconsin. Trick-or-treaters in northern Illinois, Maine, and Wisconsin have the highest chances of collecting candy in the snow this year. Up in Maine, the NWS is predicting that anywhere between four and eight inches of snow could fall in the coming days.

However, the NWS noted that “well below average temperatures and record-breaking cold to continue expanding from the central United States to the Appalachians” will continue to be felt on Halloween. Although snow may not be in the forecast, these cold temperatures could require one to rethink their Halloween plans. For those hoping to go door to door in search of their favorite treats, starting earlier may be a good option.
