Incredible images captured after camera dropped to bottom of the sea
A diver left his action camera on the seabed, at a depth of over 30 feet, and obtained stunning footage of whales and sea lions feeding.

In Barkley Sound, Canada, underwater videographer Peter Mieras experienced what could be called a “happy accident.”
While attempting to use his Insta360 X4 camera to film beneath the waves, the equipment detached from his fishing line and plunged to the sea floor, about 33 feet deep. What seemed like a loss turned into a unique opportunity to document an astonishing natural display.
The camera, which kept recording for nearly two hours, captured extraordinary footage. According to Mieras, the event began with a feeding frenzy: seabirds and sea lions surrounded a school of fish, creating a scene worthy of a wildlife documentary. To his surprise, a humpback whale surfaced in the area, moving through the school of fish and completing the spectacle.
“It was like a National Geographic moment,” Mieras described in an interview with CTV News. His wife, Kathy, who also witnessed the phenomenon, added, “Any creature that size so close takes your breath away.”
Upon retrieving the camera, Mieras discovered it had recorded every detail of the underwater interaction. The footage shows the humpback whale swimming among the fish in crystal-clear waters, illuminated by sun rays.
Amazing pictures from the sea bed
The couple was amazed as they reviewed the images. “We couldn’t stop watching it over and over. It was simply incredible,” Kathy commented.
The incident not only highlighted the beauty and wildlife of Barkley Sound but also showcased technology’s ability to capture unexpected moments in nature. Mieras plans to share the material with the aim of inspiring greater appreciation for marine ecosystems. Once again, luck and nature joined forces to create an accidental masterpiece.
