You could be eligible for a $3,000 check from the IRS if you have yet to file your return.

IRS to send out $3,000 tax refunds in June: Check if you’re eligible and when your payment will arrive
The IRS will continue distributing refunds from the 2025 tax season, which ended on April 15, and required taxpayers to report on their 2024 income. In early April, the IRS reported that the average tax refund was $3,116, up from $3,011 in 2024. Though the vast majority of filers who submitted by the deadline have likely received their refunds, the IRS is continuing to distribute them for returns it has received since mid-April.
If you received a W-2 form from your employer, you are required to file a return with the IRS, even if you owe no tax. You might be eligible for a refund, and the only way you will find out how large it will be is by filing.
How to track your IRS return
The IRS’s ‘Where’s My Refund’ tool can be used to track one’s refund. Those who file digitally will need to wait twenty-four hours for the IRS to begin reporting on the status of the refund. To use the tool, one will need to provide one’s refund amount, their filing status, and their Social Security Number or tax filing number.
Did you apply for a filing extension?
If you filed for an extension with the IRS or were offered one after a natural disaster, you will have until October 15, 2025. However, the extension only applies to the filing of a return, not any taxes that are owed.

Do you live abroad?
If you live abroad, the IRS warns that “your worldwide income is subject to U.S. income tax, regardless of where you live.”
Living abroad? Don’t forget to file and pay any taxes due by Monday, June 16, 2025. This #IRS deadline applies to both U.S. citizens and resident aliens abroad, including those with dual citizenship. https://t.co/DfKXLaVUJU pic.twitter.com/g5OndLwpsW

However, many might not need to pay, thanks to certain tax credits related to foreign earned income. The deadline for filers living abroad or traveling is June 16.
