It’s been less than a week since the high-profile court case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was brought to a close, with the jury finding in favour of Depp on all three of his claims.

During the course of that trial one member of Depp’s legal team grew into something of a celebrity online with her sharp words to Heard and non-nonsense demeanour in court. Camille Vasquez was seen by many to be the crucial member of Depp’s team and she has been rewarded by being promoted to partner at law firm Brown Rudnick.

In recent days it had been reported that Vasquez was the subject of a bidding war with numerous offers from law firms for her services. She is also thought to have received offers from television networks and cable channels to work as a legal analyst.

In a law firm the role of partner is seen as the ultimate reward for seasoned lawyers who have proved themselves invaluable to the business. Broadly speaking, partners are responsible for the management of the firm and the duty to bring in new clients often falls to them. They are the ones who are ultimately responsible for the bottom line and must ensure that the firm is making money.

Why was Camille Vasquez promoted to partner?

Vasquez had been a part of Brown Rudnick’s Orange County office since 2018, starting off as an associate in the Litigation and Arbitration practice. During her time with the firm she was involved in many high-stake disputes, including defamation cases.

She was a part of the team assembled to litigate Depp’s claims against Amber Heard, and won a jury verdict on 1 June 2022 ensuring that Heard would be required to pay $15 million in compensation payments.

“We are delighted to welcome Camille to the partnership,” said Brown Rudnick CEO William Baldiga. “Historically, we have reserved this announcement for the end of our fiscal year. But Camille’s performance during the Johnny Depp trial proved to the world that she was ready to take this next step now. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to what she will accomplish as our newest partner.”

After the news was made public, Vasquez thanked those who she had worked alongside for their efforts since she joined the firm. Vasquez’s statement read:

“I am delighted that Brown Rudnick has given me its full vote of confidence by having me join the partnership. I’m proud of the uniquely talented team I’ve had the privilege to lead, which exemplified teamwork and collaboration, and I look forward to continuing to represent Brown Rudnick’s culture of excellence.”
