Cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases humans face. It is characterized by the appearance of abnormal cells in the body, which can form malignant tumors or spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or the lymphatic system.

For this reason, any advice, tool, or tip that helps reduce the risk of developing any type of cancer is widely welcomed. Jorge Cárdenas, an oncologist and content creator, has shared a video on TikTok in which he discusses the foods that can most affect our body’s cells and, over time, increase the likelihood of developing this condition.

“What foods can increase the risk of cancer?” is the question the health professional addresses. “There are many foods that, to a greater or lesser extent, can raise the risk of developing cancer,” he explains before giving several examples: “Processed meats, excessive consumption of red meat, ultra-processed foods, sodas, and energy drinks.”

Cárdenas explains how these foods affect the body. “I eat them too from time to time, but they all contain components that, if consumed frequently and in large amounts, can affect our body’s cells,” he says.

Continuing with his explanation, the oncologist points out that alcohol, even when consumed in “moderate amounts,” can contribute to several types of cancer, such as breast, liver, and esophageal cancer.

“The key is not obsession, it is frequency”

“Do we have to live in fear of everything we eat? The answer is no. The key is not obsession, the key is frequency. A diet based mainly on natural, fresh, and varied foods can greatly reduce risk. It is not about banning everything, it is about making sure that most of what you eat adds to your health rather than taking away from it,” he explains.

To close, Jorge Cárdenas shares one final and brief message with all of his followers: “Prevention is not about living in fear, it is about living with awareness,” he concludes.
