What to know about the March for Israel in DC

The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and the Jewish Federations of North America have organized a rally on the National Mall in Washington DC. The event “will be an opportunity for all Americans to come together in solidarity with the people of Israel.”

The organizers are expecting as many as 60,000 people from communities across the country and all walks of life to join forces. In addition to showing “strong solidarity with the Israeli people” the March will also call for “the immediate release of the remaining hostages” that are held by Hamas as well as “condemn the rise of antisemitism.”

The rally will take place Tuesday 14 November from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET on the National Mall in Washington DC. Gates to the event open at 10:00 am and it is free and open to the public.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced a number of road closures and traffic restrictions for the day, some of them beginning on Monday and continuing into Wednesday.

Streets that will be posted as Emergency No Parking

The MPD stated that the following streets will be Emergency No Parking from Monday 13 November at 9:00 pm until Tuesday 14 November at 6:00 pm:

  • 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • 3rd Street form Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • Maryland Avenue from Independence Avenue to 3rd Street, SW

According to the MPD The following roads will be posted as Emergency No Parking Tuesday 14 November from around 6:00 am to 6:00 pm:

  • 6th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
  • Madison Drive from 4th Street to 14th Street, NW
  • Jefferson Drive from 4th Street to 14th Street, SW
  • Constitution Avenue from 6th Street to 15th Street, NW
  • Independence Avenue from 3rd Street to 14th Street, SW

Streets that will be closed to vehicle traffic

Starting Monday 13 November at 6:00 am 4th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW will be closed to vehicle traffic. It will remain closed until 5:00 am Wednesday 15 November.

MPD said that 7th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 9:30 pm Monday 13 November through to 6:00 pm Tuesday 14 November.

Tuesday 14 November, the following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 6:00 am until 6:00 pm:

  • 3rd Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • Madison Drive from 4th Street to 14th Street, NW
  • Jefferson Drive from 4th Street to 14th Street, SW
  • Maryland Avenue from Independence Avenue to 3rd Street, SW
  • 12th Street Tunnel
  • Inbound 14th Street from 14th Street to Independence Avenue, SW

Between approximately 6:00 am and 6:00 pm Tuesday 14 November the MPD is advising motorists to “expect intermittent closures in the following areas”:

  • 14th Street from Constitution Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • Independence Avenue from 3rd Street to 14th Street, SW
  • Constitution Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue to 17th Street, NW
  • Pennsylvania Avenue from 15th Street to Constitution Avenue, NW

The MPD also warns those who park in the Emergency No Parking areas in violation of the signage “will be ticketed and towed.”
