Why the interview is happening
The interview marks a significant moment in the evolving relationship between Musk and Trump. Historically, the two have had a contentious rapport, with Musk previously criticizing Trump and endorsing his Republican competitor, Ron DeSantis.
However, their relationship has improved over time. Musk, who has predominantly supported Democratic candidates in the past, became disillusioned with President Biden over various issues, including Biden’s support for labor unions and perceived snubs from the White House. Additionally, Musk’s companies faced federal inquiries under Biden’s administration.
Musk’s acquisition of X led to the reinstatement of Trump’s account, which had been banned following the Capitol riot on 6 January, 2021. Despite this, Trump remains active on his platform, Truth Social, and doesn’t post to X.
