Update:

President Trump has unveiled the development of a new aircraft designed to succeed the legendary F-22 Raptor, which is poised to become the first sixth-generation fighter on the arms market. This new model, the F-55, was introduced during a press conference held in Qatar, where the American president addressed the current state of the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to unveiling the F-55, Trump highlighted enhancements to the two most significant aircraft currently in service: the F-35 and the F-22 Raptor. These improvements aim to elevate the capabilities of these fighters, signaling a transformative era in aviation.

The CEOs of Boeing and General Electric were in attendance during the presentation. Boeing is the company behind two significant military aviation projects in the United States, while General Electric designs and assembles engines for American fighter jets.

Despite being in the presence of competitors, Trump praised the F-22 Raptor, created by Lockheed Martin, calling it the most beautiful aircraft in the world. He expressed a desire to develop an improved version of the F-22, a task that seems nearly impossible and could be a misunderstanding, as this model has not been in production for several years.

What will a sixth-generation aircraft carry?

Despite Trump’s announcement, it will likely be over a decade before we see the F-55 take to the skies. Therefore, it is difficult to predict the improvements this aircraft will bring compared to the fifth-generation aircraft.

Two areas that will almost certainly be upgraded are reducing the radar signature as much as possible at low speed and enhancing capabilities in espionage and reconnaissance missions.

Another key feature this new model will almost certainly boast is its supersonic cruising speed. This allows the aircraft to travel faster than the speed of sound without consuming too much fuel, resulting in greater range and efficiency.
