Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III, has been hospitalized after an incident at her estate in Gloucestershire according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. The 73-year-old “sustained minor injuries and a concussion” the statement said.

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery,” the royal communication explained. “The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery,” the statement added.

What do we know about what happened to Princess Anne?

Buckingham Palace did not detail the exact nature of the incident which resulted in Princess Anne being hospitalized but reporting suggests that it could have been from an impact with a horse’s head or legs. The second child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip is an avid equestrian. In 1976, she became the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympics which took place in Montreal that year.

She is one of the most popular royals who has consistently received high approval ratings in opinion polls. That thanks in part to the many royal engagements that she attends. She was scheduled to travel to Canada at the end of this week where she was to take part in a ceremony at a war memorial in Newfoundland.
