Rite Aid is not alone in its financial troubles

This news from Rite Aid comes as its competitors CVS and Walgreens are also struggling. Low staffing levels have prompted walkouts.

That all three chains are facing financial and staffing challenges is an indicator that their business model may be outdated and that further scaling back may be required in the future.

Walgreens’ corporate management have announced that they would be closing 150 of its nearly 9,000 stores in the United States by the end of August 2024

Back in 2021 CVS announced it would be closing 900 stores over the following three years. At least 300 are already closed, with another 300 closing this year and another 300 next year.

Between Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid there will be roughly 1,500 fewer locations for customers to visit. As these numbers are so vast, it would be wise to call your local pharmacy to check whether they are staying open or not.
