Social Security is issuing payments of $2,000 on ave. today, Wednesday, Aug. 13: find out who gets one

Following a longer-than-normal wait this month, many U.S. seniors on Social Security retirement benefits are due to receive their latest payment.

Today - Wednesday, August 13 - the Social Security Administration (SSA) is to send out the next round of benefits payments on its distribution schedule.

Today’s Social Security payment date will also see checks go out to recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits.

Who gets a Social Security check today, August 13?

Of the nearly 70 million people who claim retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits in the U.S., most are paid on one of three Wednesdays each month.

A recipient’s designated Wednesday is decided by the date of birth of the worker whose Social Security taxes have accumulated the benefits entitlement.

For example, if you receive retirement pay based on your own work record, your birthday is used. If you claim retirement benefits based on a spouse or parent’s history of employment, the spouse or parent’s date of birth is used.

Today, the SSA is to issue checks to beneficiaries whose date of birth (or relevant family member’s date of birth) falls between the first and the 10th of each month.

Who is paid outside the three-Wednesdays timeline?

• Some long-term Social Security recipients

If you started receiving retirement benefits, SSDI or survivor pay before May 1997, your check typically goes out on the third of each month, regardless of your date of birth.

However, because August 3 was a Sunday, this payment date was brought forward to the nearest working day: Friday, August 1.

• SSI beneficiaries

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - a separate SSA program for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability - are paid on the first of each month (unless it’s a holiday or weekend day).

As a result, August’s SSI benefits were also scheduled to be sent out on Friday 1.

• Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)

Over 2.5 million people in the U.S. receive both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits.

These recipients typically get the former on the first of each month and the latter on the third. But, as August 3 was a Sunday, they received both on the first.

How much do Social Security retirement recipients get per month?

Retired workers - who make up the overwhelming majority of the U.S.’s Social Security beneficiaries - are paid a monthly average of just over $2,000.

To be precise, the average retirement check presently stands at $2,005.05 per month, per the SSA.

How much money do other SSA beneficiaries get per month?

Disabled workers get an average of $1,582.07 per month, while recipients of survivor benefits are paid a monthly average of $1,571.30. Beneficiaries of the SSI scheme get an average of $717.75 a month.
