The Spanish researcher behind the great hope against cancer announces the surprise: “Keep this date”
Asier Unciti-Broceta and his team have several different research programs underway, with one drug offering hope a cure for cancer could be near.

There is renewed hope in the never-ending fight to find a cure for cancer thanks to the efforts of a Spanish researcher and his team at the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre in Scotland.
Asier Unciti-Broceta recently returned to his homeland to deliver a talk at the University of Cádiz as part of their World Cancer Day activities, and tentatively suggested a date when stage 3 clinical trials could be held on a new type of drug that is currently in development.
Unciti-Broceta’s lab at the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre, which is part of the University of Edinburgh, is involved in developing new medication for various types of cancer, with seven different research programs underway at present.

NXP900: SRC protein inhibitor could prove cancer key
The one that is generating the most excitement is NXP900, an SRC protein inhibitor which is crucial in tumor cell development.
In conjunction with a biologist in Edinburgh, Unciti-Broceta has accelerated the development of NXP900: “It was an exceptional team effort, and thanks to that, we achieved results much faster than expected”.
The Spaniard claims his lab has created a “safe drug that is 10 times more powerful against cancer than other SRC protein inhibitors”.
Unciti-Broceta calls it “our most ambitious project” and deems preliminary results “promising,” although he says they “haven’t yet proven we’ve invented an effective cancer drug”.
But while he wants to be “cautious with expectations,” he also expressed his confidence he and his team could soon make a major breakthrough when it comes to curing one of the world’s most feared illnesses: “Mark this date. Our big dream is to start phase 3 clinical trials in 2027 and have major pharmaceutical companies join the project”.
