As Thanksgiving approaches, here are some of your best options to keep costs down to $10 per person.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner and many looking to save money during the holidays, we have put together a guide to finding the best deals on all your Turkey-Day favorites. Assuming you will have around 10 people gathered around your table, would it be possible to spend $100, or $10 per head? Let’s find out.

Before we get started. As the holiday approaches, prices will increase, meaning that you will want to complete your shopping by the end of the weekend to take advantage of lower prices before the holiday rush.

Some retailers make it easy, placing the Thanksgiving foods on sale or in a bundle to help shoppers save. For most of the deals to work, the shopper has to have a lot of essential items like butter, milk, flour, herbs, and sugar in their fridge or pantry.

Lidl and Aldi

Lidl, for example, is advertising that shoppers will be able to “host a turkey dinner for 10 with all the fixings for under $45.” The items on sale include, onions, pie crusts, boxed macaroni and cheese, and turkey priced at $0.39 a pound.

Aldi, a major competitor to Lidl, is offering the same deal, for $47.

Walmart’s offer this Thanksgiving

Walmart is also an option for many looking to stay on budget. Many of the staples needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner are available under the store’s generic brand “Good Value” for half the price as the name brand. The corporation boasts that shoppers should be able to host a dinner for 8 spending around $7 per person. If these figures are correct, adding a few more potatoes and another box of stuffing, shouldn’t push shoppers over the $10 per person target.

Safeway and Albertsons have a deal for those looking to order a ready made meal

Safeway and Albertsons have a deal for those who aren’t looking to cook this Thanksgiving. For $70, one can purchase a ready made meal that serves 6-8 people. If you were to purchase two, for $140, you would have enough food for 12-16 people, which, if on the high side, puts you under the $10 per person marker.  put you closer to the $10 per person marker.

Target’s offer might be one to skip

Target’s offer is quite slim. For $20, the company says its prices will feed four, but the only items that list includes are:

  • Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce - 14oz - $1.99
  • Russet Potatoes - 5lb - (Brand May Vary):$2.49
  • Stove Top Stuffing Mix for Turkey - 6oz - $1.99
  • Campbell's Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup - 10.5oz - $1.39
  • Del Monte Cut Green Beans - 14.5oz - $1.59
  • Heinz Home Style Roasted Turkey Gravy - 12oz - $1.99
  • Premium Basted Young Turkey - Frozen - 10-16lbs - price per lb - Good & Gather™

This might not be the best option as buying fresh versions of the canned goods would likley be cheaper if you are going to be cooking for ten people.

Meijer, a good option for the Midwestern households

Earlier this month, Meijer reported that customers would be able “to purchase all the fixings needed for a full traditional Thanksgiving meal for 4-6 people for around $37.” If we double this, we are still under the $10 per person limit, and as the quantities increase, there could be additional savings. The retailer’s deal includes what one would need to make:

  • mashed potatoes,
  • green bean casserole,
  • sweet potato casserole
  • cranberry sauce
  • turkey stuffing and gravy
  • dinner rolls
  • pumpkin pie.

Kroger is advertising that shoppers will be able to purchase all the products they need for $4.85 per person. Like Walmart, the store’s generic brand helps to keep prices down for customers looking to pick up the Thanksgiving essentials.
