The viral $3 mini tote bags from Trader Joe’s that resold for $500 are coming back this fall

A simple mini canvas tote bag that went viral is set to make a comeback. Trader Joe’s will relaunch their limited edition mini tote bags, a ‘mini-me’ version of the classic reusable canvas shopping bags this fall.

The grocery store chain plans to bring out a new range of the popular canvas bags, company sources told USA TODAY although no information has been disclosed about the color schemes this time around or a date when they will hit stores.

However, an earlier report which appeared in the Reno Gazette Journal, claimed that the tote bags will be available in black, orange, purple and a multicolored option, priced at $2.99.

Mini-tote bag craze

The original mini-tote bags first went on sale in March last year and were an instant hit - completely selling out within days. Much of their success was down to a series of viral TikTok videos in which users gushed over how handy and versatile the bags were and “perfect for picnics or shopping errands”.

Following on from that success, Trader Joe’s relaunched the mini tote bags, which are made of canvas with polyester handles, again back in April - this time in four pastel shades especially for Easter: cyan, pink, lilac and green.

And once again, demand surged with queues forming outside some stores. Customers scrambled not just to acquire one bag, but the complete collection of four. Single tote bags were listed on Ebay for several times the original price with a full set of four ranging from $90-$180. The company states that it neither condones nor supports the reselling of it products and takes every possible measure to stop the practice.

For those who missed out last year and in April, Trader Joe’s mini-totes will soon be back.
