These are the 10 states with the highest minimum wage in the United States

The federal minimum wage in the United States has not increased in 14 years, the longest period without an increase since the base wage was created in 1938. Currently, the national minimum wage is $7.25. However, some states have set higher wages.

Thirty states, plus the District of Columbia, have adopted wages above the federal benchmark. Some of these entities have tied their increases to the cost of living to keep up with inflation, while others have enacted legislation that includes automatic increases each year.

On the other hand, five states have not adopted a state minimum wage (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee), so the federal minimum applies. The rest of the states have implemented the federal minimum wage as the state minimum.

These are the 10 states with the highest minimum wage in the United States

In total, 23 states raised their minimum wages earlier this year based on increases adjusted for cost of living or inflation or as part of scheduled increases that take effect at the beginning of each calendar year.

In addition, Connecticut raised the base wage on June 1, while Nevada and Oregon raised their minimum wage on July 1. On the other hand, Florida has an increase scheduled for September.

Following the increases, the District of Columbia remains the region with the highest minimum wage in the United States at $17 per hour, followed by the state of Washington at $15.74 per hour. In third place is the state of California, with a minimum wage of $15.50 for companies with more than 26 employees.

Aside from the District of Columbia, following the recent increase, Connecticut is now the fourth highest minimum wage state.
