These Social Security payments will arrive early in January, February and March of 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) sends out millions of payments to beneficiaries every month. The vast majority are destined to retired workers but also include their spouses and survivors as well as for disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

In order to smoothly disburse the funds, the SSA has an established payment schedule based on the type of benefit along with other categories of recipients. However, the first few months of 2025 will see certain beneficiaries receiving their payments earlier than the normal disbursement date.

Social Security payments arriving early in 2025

Typically, Social Security benefits for retired workers, their spouses and survivors are sent on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of each month. Which one depends on the beneficiary’s birth date.

The exception to this schedule are those who began to receive theirs prior to May 1997. This latter group receive their payments on the third of the month.

On the other hand, those who receive SSI benefits receive their funds on the first of the month. But, if a beneficiary gets both SSI and Social Security, the SSI payments typically go out on the first and the Social Security payment generally hits bank accounts on the third.

However, if any of the days when payments are scheduled fall on a weekend or a holiday, then the payment is moved forward to the first business day. This is the case for the payments to SSI beneficiaries in the first three months of 2025.

The SSI payment that corresponded to January was sent out on December 31, 2024. SSI payments corresponding to February and March will be delivered on January 31 and February 28 this year, respectively.

Likewise, the SSI payments which correspond to June, September and November 2025, will also be moved forward. June’s payment will arrive on May 30, September’s on August 29 and November’s will hit bank accounts October 31.

Social Security payments scheduled to be sent on the third of the month will be advanced in the months of May and August. Those will arrive on May 2 and August 1, 2025, respectively.
