Sarah McBride’s political career

The Democrat is 34 years old, born on August 9, 1990 in Wilmington, Delaware. She has focused on the fight for the rights of the LGBT community for years.

Despite her youth, she has long been involved in politics. She began her political career in 2012 as an intern at the White House during former President Barack Obama’s second term.

McBride earned her bachelor’s degree from American University, focusing on government and American politics, during her internship.

Since her time as a college student, Sarah has always been known for defending the LGBTQ community.

In 2019, she was appointed National Secretary of the Human Rights Campaign, an organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people in the United States.

McBride was instrumental in legislation in Delaware that prohibits people from being discriminated against based on gender identity.

In 2020, Sarah was elected as a senator for the state of Delaware, being the first trans woman to serve in the senate.

Sarah McBride’s message after her victory

Following this achievement, the politician shared a message on her Instagram account, in which she expressed her gratitude for the votes she obtained.

“Thank you, Delaware! Because of your votes and your values, I am proud to be your next representative in Congress.

"Delaware has sent a loud and clear message: we must be a country that protects reproductive freedom, that guarantees paid leave and affordable child care for all of our families, that ensures housing and healthcare are available to all, and that this is a democracy big enough for all of us,” McBride wrote.
