US intel warns of ‘doomsday weapon’ as China readies airborne drone fleet: Israel concerned
The Jiutian SS-UAV drone carrier will fly for the first time in June, although China maintains it is not an attack vehicle.

In a world gripped by unrelenting geopolitical tension and escalating conflict, the global arms race shows no signs of slowing. According to defense analysis site Global Fire Power, the United States, Russia and China remain the top three military powers – a status driven by ever-expanding arsenals.
When could Chinese drones be operational?
China is now preparing to add a formidable new weapon to its own. The Jiutian SS-UAV is a cutting-edge unmanned aerial drone carrier capable of flying at altitudes of 50,000 feet – essentially an airborne version of a traditional aircraft carrier. The enormous plane, which Israeli media outlets claim could “rewrite the rules of war,” is expected to become operational in June.
Weighing around 15 tons, the drone carrier can transport more than 100 attack drones powered by artificial intelligence. These drones are designed to strike simultaneously using a swarm formation known as a “hive attack,” overwhelming enemy defenses, locating targets and executing precision strikes.

It can cruise at 15,000m high carrying over 100 small drones or 1,000 kg of missiles, with a range of 7,000km.

According to Israeli outlet Srugim, US intelligence sources have likened the Jiutian to a “doomsday weapon,” describing it as a “platform capable of paralyzing entire countries in a matter of minutes.” In addition to its drone payload, the aircraft can carry up to 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) of missiles with a range of roughly 4,350 miles.
“This is a tool that can incapacitate a country within minutes,” said a retired general. “Ten of these planes could disperse a thousand autonomous drones toward power grids, energy infrastructure or even gas stations. Most countries in the world wouldn’t be able to withstand that kind of scenario.”
The drone carrier was first unveiled at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow, though it is only now expected to make its maiden flight.
Framed as a defensive breakthrough
Chinese authorities have presented the aircraft as a major technological leap aimed at bolstering national security. Official statements say the project’s goal is “to maintain Chinese sovereignty and deter external threats.”
That rationale, however, has failed to convince much of the international intelligence community, which sees the Jiutian as a potentially offensive tool that could radically reshape future warfare. If deployed, experts warn it may usher in a new era of autonomous conflict on an unprecedented scale.
