City dwellers might have that “grass is always greener” moment where they consider swapping cement and traffic for wide-open spaces and fresh air. Enter: Make My Move, a site that compiles offers from rural communities willing to pay potential residents to take the plunge and relocate.

According to its website, Make My Move helps you “find your happy place” by showcasing “incredible places across the U.S. [that] are welcoming new residents with incentives, signing bonuses, and networking opportunities.”

Here, we’ll take a look at a few of the communities offering financial incentives to attract new residents.

Towns offering financial incentives to move

One of the latest towns featured is Plainfield, Indiana, which is offering $5,000 and other perks to families who move there. With a population of 27,631, Plainfield is less than 20 miles from Indianapolis and about a three-hour drive from Chicago.

However, you’ll want to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the community that interests you. For example, in Plainfield, applicants must be employed and able to continue working in their current role, with an annual income of at least $100,000. Current Indiana residents aren’t eligible, and once accepted, you must relocate within six months to receive the cash incentive.

Other towns advertised on the site include Columbus, Georgia, and Noblesville, Indiana, which will offer $5,000. Different programs provide other incentives. For example, Neodesha, Kansas, offers new residents a tax credit that helps them save approximately $5,600 when filing, as well as $15,000 in student loan repayment assistance.
