Wells Fargo is closing all its branches soon: There will be no service on this date

Wells Fargo bank branches will close on Monday, May 25, for the Memorial Day federal holiday. All branches are expected to resume normal operations the following day.

In addition to Wells Fargo, several other major banks will also close on May 25, including Bank of America, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Chase, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander Bank, BBVA, and Compass, among others, as most banks in the country observe the holiday.

Why do banks close on federal holidays?

Banks in the United States typically close during all 11 official federal holidays. Financial institutions rely on services connected to the Federal Reserve, which also shuts down on these holidays. Since the Federal Reserve is closed, banks are generally unable to process certain transactions and therefore suspend in-person operations as well.

Can you still use online banking and ATMs on holidays?

Although most large and small banks will be closed for Memorial Day on May 25, customers can still access online banking services and ATMs.

Users can complete most routine banking activities, such as checking balances, transferring funds, and withdrawing cash. However, it is important to keep in mind that payments scheduled on a federal holiday may not begin processing until the next business day, when banks reopen.

Other dates Wells Fargo will close in 2026

Of the 11 holidays officially recognized by the U.S. government, some are observed on fixed calendar dates while others change each year.

In addition, when a holiday falls on a weekend, it may be observed on a nearby weekday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is usually observed on the preceding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday.

Banks have already closed in 2026 for the following holidays:

• New Year’s Day: January 1
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 19
• Presidents’ Day: February 16

The remaining federal holidays in 2026, during which Wells Fargo and most other banks are expected to close, include:

• Memorial Day (last Monday in May): May 25, 2026
• Juneteenth National Independence Day: June 19, 2026
• Independence Day (observed): July 3, 2026
  • Although Independence Day falls on July 4, it will be observed on July 3 in 2026 because July 4 falls on a Saturday.
• Labor Day (first Monday in September): September 7, 2026
• Columbus Day (second Monday in October): October 12, 2026
• Veterans Day: November 11, 2026
• Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November): November 26, 2026
• Christmas Day: December 25, 2026
