What countries made payments totalling $7.8 million to Trump’s businesses during his presidency?
The House of Representatives has revealed that Trump’s hotels and other businesses made large payments to companies he is involved in.
Former president Donald Trump has been involved in a new controversy after the House of Representatives revealed that during his presidency his companies received millions of dollars from other countries.
According to the report shared by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, 20 foreign governments made payments to Trump companies during the two-year period under review.
The countries that made payments during Trump’s presidency
The report notes that while former President Trump was in office, his companies received at least $7.8 million from 20 governments, including those of China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Malaysia.
The four entities that received payments are: Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York and Trump World Tower in New York. More than $5.5 million came from the Chinese government and the rest from 19 other countries.
“The governments that made these payments sought specific foreign policy results from President Trump and his administration. Every dollar that former President Trump accepted violated the Constitution’s strict prohibition on payments from foreign governments, which the Founders enacted to prevent presidents selling out foreign policy to foreign leaders,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the Oversight Committee.
Raskin also commented that it is not yet known “the extent of foreign payments Donald Trump received, or even the total number of countries that paid him and his companies while he was president.” He also blamed Republican representatives for hiding this information.
