Snowfall is, rather unsurprisingly, set to continue in the United States.

That’s right, according to the Weather Prediction Center (WPC), the next storm system will move into the western United States this weekend, bringing snow accumulations of up to 12 inches in some areas of the country.

“Conditions remain favorable for lake-effect snow on the downwind side of the Great Lakes. Cold air, relatively warmer lake water temperatures, and a persistent northwesterly flow will combine to produce snow accumulations of up to 12 inches in some regions,” the WPC stated.

The agency also reported that western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania are under a lake-effect storm warning through Saturday, with dangerous travel conditions expected as strong winds will reduce visibility due to blowing snow.

In addition, areas along the western shores of New York near Lake Ontario could see snow accumulations of 12 to 24 inches through Sunday as lake-effect snow bands continue.

Meanwhile, a series of fronts will move from northwest to southeast across the Great Lakes region, from Wisconsin and Michigan to New England, over the weekend, increasing the chances of snow.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has also reported that increasingly unsettled weather is expected in the Pacific Northwest over the weekend.

“Rain and some high-elevation snow will return to Washington and Oregon on Saturday as the next front moves in. Mountain snow and low-elevation rain will push farther inland, reaching the northern Rockies by early Sunday as a low-pressure system begins to develop across the northern High Plains and into Alberta, Canada,” the agency noted.

Here is the forecast for areas expecting fresh snowfall in the coming days, according to Windy.com.
