Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that tech entrepreneur and lawyer Nicole Shanahan would be his running mate. He made the announcement in her hometown of Oakland, California in March.
Kennedy said he made his choice based on their shared passion for healthy foods and regenerative agriculture, and for her expertise on “how big tech uses AI to manipulate the public”.
Shanahan brings both youth and wealth to Kennedy’s campaign. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated with a law degree from Stanford. She has no experience as an elected official, but has donated to Democratic campaigns in the past.

Nicole Shanahan: tech and law advocate
The 38-year-old is an entrepreneur and advocate for technology and law. She heads the Bia-Echo Foundation, which she created to channel money to concerns like women’s reproductive science and criminal justice reform.
She was the founder and president of ClearAccessIP, a company that develops software solutions for managing intellectual property portfolios, that was sold four years ago.

Kennedy’s running mate is also recognized for her advocacy efforts related to the ethical and responsible development of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology. She has spoken at various conferences and events on topics such as innovation, intellectual property rights, and the intersection of law and technology.
Shanahan married Sergey Brin, one of the co-founders of Google, and the couple were involved in various philanthropic endeavors. The two share a young daughter and divorced last year.
Shanahan’s work and contributions have earned her recognition in the tech and legal communities, and she continues to be active in promoting innovation and addressing legal and ethical challenges in the technology sector.
