AA Plane Crash
Who is Robert Isom, CEO of American Arlines: what is his salary and estimated net worth?
Robert Isom is the CEO of American Airlines and thus earns a decent salary plus several flight benefits for himself and his family.

An American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided mid-air into a Black Hawk helicopter in Washington D.C., causing both to crash into the Potomac River. Since then, CEO Robert Isom has released a statement about the incident.
“I’d like to express our deep sorrow about these events. This is a difficult day for all of us at American Airlines, and our efforts now are focused entirely on the needs of our passengers, crew members, partners, first responders, along with their families and loved ones,” Isom said.
Who is Robert Isom?
The tragic event has led to questions about the CEO himself, who is Robert Isom. Isom, who is 57 years old, grew up near Detroit, Michigan and earned two degrees from the University of Notre Dame - mechanical engineering and English. He worked for a bit at Procter & Gamble before returning to school to get his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
After working in the airline industry for several years with Northwest Airlines and US Airways, he became the president of American Airlines in 2016. He held that position until 2022, when he took over for Doug Parker as CEO of the American Airlines Group and American Airlines, its subsidiary.
Robert Isom’s salary and estimated net worth
In April 2024, American Airlines had its annual meeting notice, which included Isom’s total salary of $31.4 million from 2023 in its proxy statement. That garnered some criticism considering the airline’s struggles as well as the fact that its flight attendants hadn’t seen an increase in pay since 2019.
That included a base salary, incentives for retaining top talent, performance-based bonuses, confirmed flights on preferred cabins and routings, legal fees for negotiating compensation, as well as contribution to his 401k.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Base salary: $1.3 million
- Bonus: $2.75 million
- Stock awards: $19.5 million
- Incentives: $7.8 million
His earnings for 2023 were significantly higher than 2022 ($4.8 million). The amount was approved by the board of directors after AA’s recovery from the covid-19 pandemic.
Based on reports, Isom’s estimated net worth is around $51 million, according to Gurufocus.
