Who is the suspect behind the New Orleans attack? Everything we know about the perpetrator
Authorities have identified the individual behind the mass car attack in New Orleans. He is,42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar.
Ten people were killed and at least 35 others were injured on the morning of 1 January in New Orleans, after a man drove into party goers at a New Year’s Eve party. The incident, which has already been classified by the authorities as an act of terrorism, happened around 3:15 a.m. (local time) on Bourbon Street in the French quarter of the city.
According to authorities, the pickup truck used in the attack had Texas license plates. Officers at the scene also found a Glock pistol and a .308-caliber rifle equipped with optics and a sensor. The FBI said the shooter was killed after being shot dead by authorities as they claimed in a statement:
“This morning, an individual drove a car into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing several people and injuring dozens more,” the FBI said in a press release issued Wednesday morning. “The subject then confronted local law enforcement and is now dead (...) We are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism.”
Who is the perpetrator of the mass attack in New Orleans?
The perpetrator of the mass attack was identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas resident and real estate agent. According to initial reports, the man was carrying an ISIS flag on the truck he was driving.
The FBI is already investigating the “possible associations and affiliations of the subject with terrorist organizations.” At the moment, everything seems to indicate that the truck was rented. The authorities are working to ascertain on how the man came to possess the vehicle, in which “possible improvised explosive devices” were also found.
“FBI Bomb Technical Special Agents are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable and will work to make those devices safe,” authorities said.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety records, Shamsud-Din had two misdemeanors on his record: In 2002, he was arrested in Katy (TX) for misdemeanor theft. Three years later, Beaumont police arrested him for driving with an invalid license.
